Greys 2s were up and out early on Saturday morning to retain their prime position at the top end of the table. The perks of playing in the Greater Manchester league is that games are never far away .... that's why we headed across the M6 to Prescott!
The team assembled hungry for victory and keen for another win. With Kath away it left the opportunity for Tracy to pop her captaincy cherry.
Fired up from an energetic warm up the team were raring to go. Greys held the majority of the play for the first 20 minutes but despite many shots on goal were unable to find the back of the net. That was until Sophie weaved her way skilfully past the Prescott defence to send the ball successfully into the back of the goal. She repeated this move again only a few minutes later hitting the ball with such force it soared past the goalie and into the back of the goal and out again in the flash of an eye so fast that it was somehow missed completely by the umpire.
Not that it mattered tho as greys work on their short corners over the last few weeks finally paid off. Tiph injected to ball with the speed light to soph who slipped it right where Liane was waiting ready to sweep it in with precision perfection between the post and the keepers left foot.
Back in play it was next the turn of Minx who found her self in prime position in the D and was able to send a belter to the back of the net.
Tiph then decided she wanted to be part of the action too finding herself top D ready to wind up for her trademark golf swing and firing one of her thunderbolts to the back of the net taking us to 4-0 by half time.
The team once again dominated play in the second half. Sophie was keen to rectify her disallowed goal and did so with such ease and precision it almost makes you sick.
After many one on one rallies with the keeper in the first half Shandy finally came up trumps doing what she does best and taking the score to 6-0.
Minx still on cloud 9 from her first goal decided to extend the feeling longer by once again sending the ball flying into the back of the net and earning herself the award for best celebration.
The problem with scoring so many goals is that it's often hard to keep track. With the mysterious 8th goal up for grabs no one was quite sure who it belonged to .... perhaps it was to make up for Sophie's disallowed one, or maybe it was Liane's second short corner .... who knows but it was undoubtably deserved that is for sure.
A great team effort as always. So let's take a second to remember the minions who let these show boats take all the glory. Firstly of course Bev and Lydia staying strong as always in defence. Secondly, Annie and Anna making great runs and supporting play along the right wing. Thirdly, Tracy and Beth weaving their way skilfully through the middle of the pitch and helping to distribute the play. A special mention goes to Vicky who had 2 touches of the ball all game (only one of them while the ball was actually in play.) And finally to coach Aasim who has to put up with the lot of us.
Player went to soph for her supersonic goal scoring which was unseeable to the naked eye.
Donkey went to Ve for her vocal disbelief in the umpires lack of logical explanation of any sort as to how the ball had ended up in the back of the goal but wasn't a goal?!
