Match report

After a night of drinking and general debauchery the 2s congregated in the Bury car park like a group of teenagers huddled around a park bench with no where else to go. Noticeable entrances came firstly from Broady rocking up blazing Chesney hawks at full volume shouting out “Chesney” at the top of her voice. This was shortly followed by rude boys Sprag’s and Lizzie cruising into the car park tunes blaring, eyes blood shot and Mackey’s in their hands.

On the pitch a bleary eyed Sophie took the warm up once again showing off her grapevine skills. After a few shots on goal the team were pumped and ready to go with last nights alcohol still running through their veins!

The first half started well with a few attacks on the D before Aileen managed to find the back of the net by rectifying one of Tracy’s many missed attempts making the score 1-0.

Aileen then followed this up with a cross to Ve in the D who managed to trickle I past the keeper only for a keno defender to save it on the line. Not to worry tho as a few seconds later a short corner was awarded. Tracy skilled her way past the number 1 runner and slipped it left to Ve. Ve’s attempt was saved by the keeper but Sprag’s (who is used to being on the rebound) was at hand to slip it into the back of the net! 2-0 to Greys.

It’s wasn’t all plain sailing tho as Bury put up a fight resulting from some great saves by Kit and some text book defensive work across the back which may have even lead to Bev breaking two of her fingers (sorry Lydia)

Half time talk and the team were feeling positive but knew they could work even harder. Ve couldn’t believe that it was only 1-0!

Second half started and both teams were still fighting to be in that elusive cup semi final.

With Greys bossing the press Aileen managed to intercept their hit out and crossed it to Sprag’s who bent it like Beckham into the goal making the score 3-0.

However that wasn’t stopping Bury’s determination and after many great attempts on goal they managed to intercept the ball in the D to make the score 3-1. Alex wasn’t worried as they still needed 3 more to win.

That said the defense had to work hard to keep the Bury forwards at bay as the Greys team who are not as young or sober as they used to be started to feel tired and broken a bit like Sophie’s face.

Still on the attack Greys had some more chances in the D which resulted in another short corner. After fighting hard for that 50-50 ball Broady managed to score making it 4-1.

With so many attacks it’s hard to keep track of them all the fifth goal was so quick and skillful it was almost unseen to the naked eye making it 5-1.

With only seconds on the clock and a short corner awarded to Greys Sprag’s was keen to get a hat trick. She injected the ball to Tracy at top D who slipped it back to her on the line for a great deflection in the back of the net only to discover that Tracy having only played for 3 years and teaching the sport is still unsure of the rules and forgot to stop it outside the D.

With the team in high spirits there was nothing else left to do but head to the pub! (Not on site Pearson as it’s a school)

The 2’s look forward to their semi final match and the compulsory pre match night out before hand.
