Didsbury Greys 1s 3-4 Bowdon 3s

It was a very welcome return to hockey for the team and everyone was definitely up for it!

The warm-up highlighted where we’re still a bit rusty but that’s what friendlies are for. We were joined by a few new faces: Haz, Helen J, Ally and Vicky and a return to the squad by Emma Morton (she finally realised the error of her ways and knows that football is not the answer ?).

It took a while for us to settle in and Bowdon capitalised with an early goal. This was followed shortly after by another. However, Sophie didn’t take long to find her form to bring us back into the game. Bowdon didn’t sit back and were quick to take the lead once again following a short corner strike. Just before the end of the half, Bowdon led by 3-1.

Half time saw a change of keepers with Alice on and Vicky taking a well earned rest. The message from Bailey was clear- be aggressive and hard to beat. Everybody upped their effort and worked hard to track back and put the opposition under pressure. Bowdon extended their lead to 4-1 after a well worked attack and slip in at the post but Greys weren’t giving up. Sophie scored another 2, giving her a hat-trick (the 3rd was a corker into the top corner of the net and probably earned her man of the match!).

This helped Grey’s confidence and the passing became slicker and the marking tighter. There were a few more attacks that almost led to goals, proving how closely the two teams were matched. A few more training sessions and we’ll be capitalising on these opportunities!

A great first game back despite getting absolutely soaked!
